  • Notes: From the middle of the 18th century to the early 19th century some of the most important races in England were the Great Subscription Purses. The races were held in August at York racecourse at distances over four miles. King David won divisions of the races at five and six in the years of 1816 and 1817. He was owned by the Scottish peer Charles Douglas (1777-1837), sixth Marquess of Queensberry.
